— and every day after!
Rosé may have its moment in the sun on International Rosé Day (always on the fourth Friday in June), but the best examples deserve attention year-round – especially those from Beechworth. This cool-climate enclave in Victoria’s northeast, better known for its poised Chardonnays and structured reds, is quietly producing rosés of remarkable depth, clarity, and site expression. Think precision over prettiness: these are wines with texture, tension, and a compelling sense of place. From saignée styles with savoury drive to purpose-built rosés offering citrus lift and mineral edge, Beechworth’s take on rosé is anything but one-dimensional.
Whether you’re seeking a food-friendly bottle or a serious pink to cellar, now is the time to explore what this high-altitude region has to offer, beyond the blush! Check out some of our current release pinks: sparkling, still, or skinsy from the vignerons below:
SPARKLING PINK from Beechworth
Castagna 2017 Sparkling Allegro (méthode traditionelle) | RRP $50
Rose bright, lots of lively red berry fruitiness, some zesty, briny acidity in the mix, cool, tight bubbles. There’s some halva and nougat notes in the mix, a sense of complexity and freshness alongside savoury characters. Feels gently ‘red winey’ and has lots of detail and vitality despite that.

The wine is named Rosato (Italian for rosé) as it is a blend of the Sangiovese and Nebbiolo varieties. Stylistically, it is also European, where the wine has fruit sweetness but a dry finish. Foreign Friends 2024 ‘Ada’ Rosé | RRP $30
Meet the Nebbiolo Rosé named Ada. She’s got zingy acidity, grapefruit pith and pronounced strawberry and peach aromas. From there, they were pressed off skins, before fermenting and ageing in old French oak over the winter, arriving here to make your acquaintance today.
James & Co Sangiovese 2023 Rosé | RRP $30
Distinctive, elegant and true to its variety, showing vibrant character, clean acidity and soft texture. The nose offers pure, fresh characters of red berry compote with strawberries and cream. Bright and tight in its youth, it will soften over time with a long, dry, savoury finish. With the fruit from Whorouly, in the Alpine Valleys. They recommend serving chilled (the wine too)!
Piano Piano 2023 Rosé | RRP $23
The grapes were destemmed only and gently pressed. 75% of the wine was fermented in a stainless steel tank, and 25% was fermented in a selection of older French oak barriques and hogsheads. There was no malolactic fermentation, and the wine was bottled early to keep the wine fresh. This Rose is made from Sangiovese grown on a cool east-facing block in the King Valley. The Sangiovese was picked at the ideal ripeness to make a savoury European-style rosé. This savoury rosѐ has aromas of cherries, a touch of spice and some confectionery notes. These flavours flow through to the palate and finish with a textured dry finish.
Eleventh House, by Little Frances 2023 Rosé | RRP $26
With a very pale blush (rose gold), this wine will tease and surprise you. Flavours of alpine strawberry, delicate daphne and tangerine. Pure and bright, serious. A rosé made from grapes grown in the King Valley.
SKINSY PINK
Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown 2022 Grauburgunder | RRP $38
Their red-drinking white: Pinot Gris, fermented on skins. A small batch wine from a 740m altitude site in Whitlands in the King Valley. The 2022 iteration of this wine is probably the most complete and complex version yet. Think orchard fruits – baked quince, pear flesh, hints of calvados and unripe strawberries and a wash of asian spices and alpine herbs. The palate is like a mirror world to Pinot Noir – the tannin and structure are similar, yet the wine is more delicate and lingering.
