In the annual Halliday Wine Companion Top 100 Wineries, our tiny little GI of Beechworth, has five producers included!
So, how does one collate a finite list of Australia’s best wine producers you ask? We’d say with a lot of furrowed brows, and sweat, and a few beers…But apparently there was a method to the madness…So we dug a little deeper to find out just how the Halliday Wine Companion team selected this years Top 100 producers:
The Halliday Top 100 Wineries was not been built on any kind of algorithm, it’s here to recognise, and celebrate the very best producers of Australian wine right now.
To be selected, a Halliday Wine Companion team member must have reviewed the producer’s wines within the last 12 months…from there, they had a rather long list (1100 in fact) of producers, that is then whittled down to ~450. Then, it came down to consistency of a quality product, and those within the producers range.
The Top 100 – 2024, are producers said to be “the best of the best” and “are names that resonate with excellence.”
We’ve pulled together the five Beechworth producers featured in this year’s Top 100 wineries list, you can see where they landed below:
3. Giaconda
36. Sorrenberg
